The Connect Life Groups are designed to engage a wide group of people who regularly attend Moriah Baptist Church in Risca.
Connect is aimed at the younger members and families (20s to 40s) within the church who often struggle to attend current Church meetings. A number of factors compete for their time including: work commitments; their need for family time with their children or partners; struggle to find babysitters; uncertainty about the value of meeting together to explore our faith together.
Connect is designed to provide an informal environment where we can connect with prayer, the Bible and each other – in other words church! The Groups will provide opportunity to discuss our faith and doubts freely so that we can support and encourage each other and care for one another’s practical needs. This is about cultivating a living faith, vibrant and fun!
The aim is to build each other up in the faith through deepening relationships, an understanding and application of Scripture, and embracing Christ through every stage of our lives. This will hopefully lead to a more integrated Church that is relevant and meaningful to all our members and above all gives us the power to reach out to people in our community.
We've called it a Life Group primarily because it is a group with whom you share and experience life. A growing Christian community in action honouring God and therefore serving those inside and outside the church (Acts 2:42-47).
We set up Connect in October 2008 and after agreeing our aims and purpose of the group we held our first meeting in November. We aim to meet once a month (third Monday of each month - see the Church Diary) either at the church or preferably at people’s homes.
The Groups typically consist of no more than 12 people (although our current group is 22 strong!) with a leader chosen from the members of each Group. As numbers grow we may split to form more Groups with new leaders assigned. We will obviously aim to keep consistency by studying the same material.
We follow a Christian theme to our meeting that provides us with a structure to our discussions. Some ideas for study include: Purpose Driven Life; Lyfe; Firm Foundations; Nooma.com; studies of books of the Bible; a recent sermon in more depth, etc., although we would be open to any Christian theme we think would engage the Groups. The aim of each study is always to enrich our lives with God’s instructions and discuss its application and purpose in our daily lives.
On a regular basis we will look to arrange social events such as meals out at Christmas; a Sunday lunch; time with the family on a weekend (the park or at Ezeeplay), etc. These proved very successful in the past and also provide an opportunity to bring non-Christian partners in to a church event.
Would you like to get involved?
If you would like to get involved then please do not hesitate to Contact Us. We would be more than happy to invite you along to one of our meetings. We meet on the third Monday of every month so it is easy to plan in to your diary.
